As the town of Canadian prepares for a formal ceremony to honor Thomas Brown, his teachers continue to share the memories of how he touched their lives.

Canadian High School Football Coach and Athletic Director Chris Koetting remembers how Thomas prepared to take the field.

“He gave it 100% every time he walked out on the field. You knew you were going to get his best every time," said Koetting.

Koetting coached Thomas from 7th grade up until his senior year. Not only was he active on the field, but Thomas was also exploring many other talents.

“He was a very talented kid," said Koetting. "He was very active in theater and was a tremendous actor.”

Everyone who came in touch with Thomas could see his zest for success and felt his positive spirit.

“Just the kind of kid everybody gravitated to and really liked," said Koetting.

Canadian Independent School District Superintendent Kyle Lynch said the district will truly miss Thomas.

“We’re a very tight-knit community here in Canadian and I just think when one person is hurting the entire community is too," said Lynch.

As for strength to get through this tough time, Lynch says they have pulled it from Thomas’s parents' faith. Lynch said he has spoke with both parents.

“It was interesting to hear Kelly Brown talk about this situation," said Lynch. "Kelly said the thing people need to realize and take away from this is that you need to love Jesus and you need to make sure you hug your kids everyday.”

Brown's funeral will be held at the Canadian High School Gymnasium Saturday February 2nd, at 2 pm.
