Canyon High School quarterback Lawson Rikel and wide receiver Cade Olson were presented with the MaxPreps Winning Connection award, presented by Altice USA, the provider of Suddenlink-branded internet, TV and phone services, during halftime of Tuesday's girl's basketball game at the Canyon High gym.

The MaxPreps Winning Connections Awards honors high school quarterback and wide receiver pairs who have been making incredible plays throughout the football season. The MaxPreps editorial team chose five winning connection plays and compiled them into a video, and fans were then given the opportunity to vote on the best winning connection. Rikel and Olson, received the most votes and, as the winners, were honored at a presentation in their home time and in a featured article and video on the MaxPreps and CBS Sports websites.

“MaxPreps congratulates Lawton Rickel and Cade Olson on being winners of the MaxPreps Winning Connection Award,” stated Andy Beal, president and founder of MaxPreps. “Great quarterback and receiver combinations are a result of hard practice, great vision, timing and skill. Our Winning Connection duo have demonstrated those characteristics throughout the season and have provided their team a competitive advantage every time they take the field together.

Quarterbacks and wide receivers make up the backbone of any high school team’s passing game. Rikel threw for over 2,800 yards and 26 TDs and rushed for over 1,000 yards and 17 TDs. Olson, a dual-position player, caught 17 passes for 442 yards and five TDs and was the leading tackler on defense.

“We put Cade in for special situations that lead to multiple big plays. This was one of them,” stated head coach Blake Bryant.

Jacob Lopez, Regional Vice President of Altice USA / Suddenlink, presented Rikel and Olson with the MaxPreps Winning Connections Award on Tuesday evening during the halftime of the Canyon High School girls basketball game.

“At Altice USA, we know a lot about connectivity because every day we connect our Suddenlink customers to the information and content they love through simple and intuitive technology," said Lopez. "Altice USA is pleased to partner with MaxPreps on this great opportunity for high school athletes to get recognition for excellent teamwork. Congratulations to Lawton and Cade for their hard work, game-changing plays, and their well-deserved MaxPreps Winning Connection Award.”
