Padres announce coaching staff for Amarillo Sod Poodles 2019 season
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KVII) —
The San Diego Padres organization has announced the coaching staff for its Minor League affiliates, including the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
The Sod Poodles will be managed by Phillip Wellman, in his fourth season as the Padres Double-A manager, when the team returns to Amarillo after 12 seasons in San Antonio. The 2019 season will be Wellman's 31st as a coach and 20th as a minor league manager.
The Amarillo pitching corps will be coached by Jimmy Jones, in his 11th season in the Padres organization. Hitting coach Raul Padron returns for his fourth season with organization and second with the Double-A affiliate after serving as hitting coach for Lake Elsinore in 2017.
Freddy Flores joins the Amarillo staff for his first season as fielding coach and his third with the Padres, previously serving in the same capacity for Lake Elsinore.
Nick Coberly and Drew Garner will led the Sod Poodles training staff as athletic trainers and Drew Heithoff will serve as strength coach.
