Taco seasoning sold at Walmart recalled due to salmonella concerns
LENEXA, Ks. (WSET) -- Taco seasoning sold at Walmart and H-E-B has been recalled because of cumin spice produced by Mincing Spice Co. in the seasoning.
The cumin spice has been recalled due to testing that showed it's potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
The FDA said the recall includes Great Value Mild Taco Seasoning Mix and H-E-B Taco Seasoning Mix Reduced Sodium.
So far there have been no reports of consumer complaints or illness.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The potentially affected product consists of retail packages weighing 1 – 1.25 oz.
The "Best By" date information can be found on the top part of the back side of the package. The product is sold in select retail grocery stores located in Washington, DC and the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Consumers who have purchased the product with the impacted "Best By" dates are urged not to consume the product but to discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
