NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Police have arrested a Nashville man who they say nearly beat his wife to death on Sunday.
Neighbors called police after witnessing Percy Thompson, 34, repeatedly punch his wife until she was left unconscious. The assault this weekend came just six days after domestic violence charges were dropped for previously beating his wife in December.
Police said they got to the home north of Nashville and found the victim in a car with her mother watching over her. Her whole upper body was covered in blood.
The victim’s mother said Thompson began yelling at his wife over what she wore to church. She said he was screaming and cussing in front of everyone in the home, including the couple’s children. Thompson, who was out of jail on bond and has a lengthy criminal history, yelled that his wife “was not going to put [him} back in jail.”
Thompson left but came back and forced his way inside the home. He allegedly pushed her down the steps in front of the home in front of the children and then repeatedly punched her in the face.
After the victim was unconscious, Thompson packed his car and left the scene. He was found not long later at an apartment a few miles away.
Thompson was charged with attempted criminal homicide, failure to appear and driving on a revoked license. He was booked in the Davidson County jail on a $301,000 bond.
