Traffic being rerouted along Interstate 40 at Grand Street

Update at 9:11 a.m.: Eastbound lanes of traffic have been reopened, and traffic again is flowing in that direction, according to officials


Update at 8:56 a.m.: Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews are on the scene helping with the glass cleanup, according to TxDOT's Sonja Gross.

She said seven crew members are working with loaders, dump trucks and brooms to clean up the shattered glass.

"It's gonna be awhile," Gross said.

Meanwhile, traffic remains stalled as the interstate remains shutdown. Traffic is being rerouted around the accident scene.


Update at 7:45 a.m.: Just after 6:30 a.m. Amarillo Police were called to an accident in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at Grand Street involving a semi truck, according to a release from APD.

The semi truck was hauling a trailer loaded with glass. The truck struck the center median causing the glass to shatter and go into all lanes of the highway, according to the release.

All traffic is being diverted off at Grand Street while crews attempt to clean the glass off of the street, the release stated.

Traffic will be affected for at least the next hour. No injuries have been reported, according to APD.


Update at 7:34 a.m.: A second accident has occurred in Interstate 40 at Grand Street. A small vehicle wedged under a Wonder Bread truck in the westbound lanes of the interstate.


Update at 7:17 a.m.: Glass is covering several lanes of Interstate 40 near Grand Street.
