AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles may not own the rights to sell merchandise with the their name on it.
According to Justia Trademarks, an application to trademark the name 'Amarillo Sod Poodles' was applied for on June 6 by Stone Ranch Media, LLC, just days after the organization announced the five finalists in the 'Name the Team' sweepstakes. The application was approved on Sept. 20, according to records.
The trademark applies to the following goods and services with the name Amarillo Sod Poodles: hats; hats for infants, babies, toddlers and children; athletic shirts; baseball caps and hats; button down shirts; camouflage shirts; collared shirts; golf shirts; graphic t-shirts; hooded sweatshirts; knit shirts; long-sleeved shirts; polo shirts; short-sleeve shirts; sport shirts; sports jerseys; sports shirts; sports shirts with short sleeves; sports caps and hats; stocking hats; sweatshirts; t-shirts; tee shirts; and tee-shirts.
Amarillo Sod Poodles President and General Manager Tony Ensor provided the following statements to ABC 7 News regarding the filed trademark:

"We are aware of this individual and we are following the trademark processes and procedures. We are not at all concerned and will let the process play out. We could not be more excited and confident about our name, this brand, and our logo! Sod Poodles is our brand and identity. We created it, and our community brought it to life. There is no way we are going to allow an outside individual who has nothing to do with our team try to take advantage of our team and this community."
Regarding the topic of merchandise:
"People all over the country are excited about Amarillo Sod Poodles Baseball! In fact, 35 states thus far have placed merchandise orders for our Amarillo gear. We are thrilled that the name and brand are taking off so well nationally and shining such a positive spotlight on our community and our new team!"
Stone Ranch Media, which is owned by local man Dusty Green, also owns the rights to two other trademarks, Two For the Road and Live Love Travel, a non-fiction television series about travel, adventure, culture and lifestyles and a clothing line, respectively.
