Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting identified
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
The Amarillo Police Department has identified the deceased suspect from Wednesday night's officer-involved shooting as 23-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez.
According to APD, at about 8 p.m. officers were at the America's Best Value Inn at 3930 East Interstate 40, looking for a male with a felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officers observed Rodriguez exit a room with a handgun in his hand.
Rodriguez attempted to hide behind other civilians. He refused to drop the gun and was shot by an officer.
Rodriguez died at the scene. No one else was injured.
APD Special Crimes continues investigating into the shooting.
As with normal procedure, APD has place the officer involved in the shooting on paid administrative leave.
