Susan G. Komen West Texas affiliate accepting community grant applications
LUBBOCK, Texas (KVII) —
The West Texas affiliate of Susan G. Komen is seeking applications for its community grants for the funding period of Apr. 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020.
The deadline for the community grants application is Jan. 10, 2019.
Community grants are eligible only to nonprofit organizations that are located in or provide services to one or more of the 26 Texas Panhandle or 18 South Plains counties in the Komen West Texas service area. Projects also must be specific to breast health and/or breast cancer.
Based on the most recent Community Profile from 2015, compiled by Komen West Texas after analyzing data in the 62-county service area, the following are priorities for community grant funding.
- Access to Screening and Diagnostic Services: Programs that increase access to screening and diagnostic services for uninsured and underinsured women ages 40 and older. Underinsured is defined as "having some insurance coverage but not enough, or when one is insured yet unable to afford the out-of-pocket responsibilities not covered by his or her insurer," (Patient Advocate Foundation). The Affiliate seeks to fund programs that provide no-cost or low-cost mammography, ultrasound and biopsies.
- Access to Treatment and Support Resources: Programs that increase access to treatment and services for uninsured and underinsured women diagnosed with breast cancer. The Affiliate seeks to fund programs that provide no-cost or low-cost breast cancer treatment (including, but not limited to, BRCA testing, chemotherapy and radiation) and services (including, but not limited to, co-pay/deductible assistance, food, transportation, lodging, medication, lymph node drainage, lymphedema garments, breast prostheses, mastectomy bras, wigs and hair loss kits).

During the last fiscal year, Komen West Texas granted five Community Grants totaling $159,826.
