Stateline Fire "pretty much contained" in N.M. and Oklahoma
The Stateline fire burning in Union County, N.M., Cimarron County, Ok. and into Colorado has been declared "pretty much contained" in N.M and Oklahoma areas.
According to officials, the New Mexico Forestry Service is still battling cinders and hot spots but the blaze in Union County is nearly out. Officials in Cimarron County have deemed the fire under control.
The NM Forestry Service has been coordinating the firefighting efforts. N.M. crews are also receiving calls to assist on the north side of the mesas on the Colorado side.
Currently, details are being worked out for jurisdiction to be handed over from the NM Forestry Service to its counterpart in Colorado. It is unknown at this time how much of the fire has been contained in Colorado.
Officials also noted that firefighting efforts were hampered by bad radio and cell signals that were essentially non-existent in the mesas at the Colorado border.
