Special Olympics basketball tournament set for Friday at Amarillo High

The Panhandle Area Special Olympics is hosting a basketball competition at Amarillo High School beginning on Friday that will determine teams qualifying for the Summer Games in Arlington in May.

According to the Special Olympics, the Opening Ceremony will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by classifications that will determine who competes in which division on Saturday. The tournament will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday and go until around 5 p.m.

Awards will be presented at the end of the tournament based on results. Players range in age from eight to 64.

The event is free and open to the public.
