Samnorwood football coach James Rigdon has been relieved of his coaching duties in the district. That decision was made in a board meeting that was said to have lasted until 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to sources, attendance at the school was low Tuesday. Only 60 of the school's 102 students showed up for classes.

Calls to the school's superintendent, George Auld were not returned.

Last Friday, students of the school organized a protest, after learning that Rigdon had been placed on administrative leave, for unknown reasons. Students decided to walk-out, in support of the coach.

In an interview on Friday, Rigdon said that he was unaware of the exact reason why he was placed on suspension, and said that the superintendent wouldn't answer that question.

"He told my assistant coach there was a lot of little things -- he wouldn't tell me -- he told me he didn't have to tell me, but he told my assistant coach that there was a lot of little things," said Rigdon.

Rigdon also said that when he found out about his administrative leave he was also told by the superintendent that he had two days to pack up and leave.

Last year, Rigdon was named 'District Coach of the Year'.
