Randall County Sheriff's Office warns of scam targeting local doctors
RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KVII) —
The Randall County Sheriff's Office is investigating a new scam that is targeting local physicians.
According to RCSO officials, the Sheriff's Office has received several calls from doctors stating that LT. Jared Wirt called them claiming warrants for their arrest have been issued for Failure to Appear before a federal grand jury by Randall County Judge Ernie Houdashell.
The calls instruct doctors to go to a CVS Pharmacy and place money on a Green Dot Card or they will be arrested immediately.
The RCSO said that no one from their office will ever call and ask for money to clear an arrest warrant. Also, as County Judge, Judge Houdashell cannot issue warrants for anyone's arrest.
Anyone receiving a call similar to these should just hang up the phone immediately.
The calls are most likely originating from outside of the United States.
RCSO warns that no one should ever send anyone money until they can confirm who they are. One of the key factors in identifying scams is that the person will ask for money immediately and law enforcement does not operate that way.
