Randall County crews battling structure fire on Claude Highway
RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KVII) —
UPDATE: 5:17 p.m.
Randall County crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 11990 Casey Road at about 11:35 a.m. on Friday.
According to officials, deputies arrived and discovered an outbuilding on fire and spreading to another building on the property. The structure fire started a small grass fire that was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The structure, however, was fully involved and the high winds added to the difficulty in containing it. Randall County Fire Chief James Amerson called for assistance from the Texas Forest Service, Amarillo Fire Department, Lake Tanglewood, Timbercreek and Palisades Volunteer Fire Departments.
Two houses across the street were threatened and deputies tried to evacuate them but no one was home. There were dogs inside and deputies were able to get them out and to safety.
The fire was ruled under control at about 1:30 p.m. Two structures, a shop and a garage were totally destroyed, along with a pickup truck and ATV's being stored inside.
The amount of losses is unknown at this time. The cause of the fire is unknown but downed power lines from the wind could have been a factor.
No injuries were reported. Three homes were saved, including the residence where the outbuildings were located.
The fire caused the Claude Highway to be closed for a time between Washington and Osage.
The Randall County Fire Department is working a structure fire on Casey Road.
