Most people knew AJ Swope for two things: his passion for wind energy management, and his love for music.

"He did something that most men, they strive their entire life to achieve, and that's a legacy," said AJ's brother, Dirk.

Dirk said that is why they've kicked off the 'AJ Swope Plaza' in his honor.

The Plaza will be very open, and like a big park. Those involved in the project say it will have an amphitheater, a first responders memorial and a Texas Panhandle Walk of Fame.

"I want this to be a place that the community appreciates. I want it to be a place that other musicians come and enjoy and they get their name out there," he said.

Setting out to raise $2.5 million, Wes Reeves, the project chairman, said the details aren't all worked out just yet.

"We identified a patch of land that's currently covered with construction trailers at this point, and it doesn't look like much," said Reeves.

However, Reeves said the vision is clear.

"We know what we want to do," Reeves said. "So really, the next steps are we're going to be working with the city in a more detailed way."

AJ is on their minds and hearts through every move involving this project. The design of the plaza resembles a wind turbine with blades, bringing all of AJ's passions into one.

"This is something that's going to continue to remind people what a wonderful person he is, and in turn he's going to continue to bless other people," said Dirk.
