One man is dead after being hit by truck
CLOVIS, New Mexico (KVII) —
On August 9th at around 3:30 p.m., Curry County Sheriff's deputies were sent to curry Road L, North of Curry Road 15 about a crash involving a pedestrian.
According to the Curry County Sheriff's Office, "55-year-old Merle Watson was walking north on the west side of Curry Road L, which is a dirt road. 23-year-old Kade Duarte was traveling north on Curry road L, driving a 2015 Ford pickup, and following another vehicle driven by Lawrence Robles."
Authorities say that Robles reported that after he passed Watson he saw him walking toward the east side of the road. Duarte reported that the dust created by Robles vehicle is the reason why he did not see Watson in the road to avoid collision.
Duarte's vehicle struck Watson and then overturned as a result of his attempted evasive action.
Watson was sent to the Plains Regional Medical Center, where he late died due to injuries.
Duarte was not injured.
