The historic Morley Theatre in Borger is currently undergoing major repairs and cleaning. The Main Street cinema was recently acquired by Mitchell Theatres, a national movie theater chain.

According to Mitchell Theatres, the Morley is now closed to the public until May 19, for needed repairs, cleaning and upgrades.

"We have a team of technicians scheduled for 10 days to get all of the auditoriums operational again," stated Brian Mitchell, co-owner.

The Grande Auditorium's sound system will be upgraded, and all auditoriums will have hearing-assisted systems installed, along with new closed captioning technology.

Mitchell Theatres also plans to make the Morley's front box office fully operational once again.

After the theatre reopens for the summer movie season, it will temporarily shut down again after Labor Day for the installation of new seating. All of the auditoriums will feature high-back rocker seats, and the ground seating in the Grande Auditorium will be replaced with electronic leather recliners.

Other remodel plans include a larger screen in the Grande Auditorium, restroom updates, adding an arcade and party room, and possibly a lounge that serves alcohol.
