Man arrested, accused of firing shots at woman

Update at 1 p.m. 8/17: Amarillo police have identified the man arrested after shots were fired at a woman in the Horace Mann Middle School parking lot.

Stephen Andrew Hale, 38, was taken into custody by Potter County Sheriff’s Deputies north of Amarillo, according to an updated news release from the Amarillo Police Department.

Hale was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon Domestic Violence and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One Over One Ounce and Less Than or Equal to Four Ounces, according to the APD release.

Amarillo police arrested a man accuse of coming to a football practice at Horace Mann Middle School on Thursday, and firing shots at a 37-year-old woman, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release.

The woman escaped injury, the release stated.

According to the release:

  • At 7:33 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, APD officers were dispatched to 610 north Buchanan Street at in the Mann Middle School parking lot on a shots fired call.
  • Callers told officers that a 38-year-old male suspect fired multiple shots at a woman who was attending a football practice at the school.
  • The woman ran through the parking lot to get away from the suspect and was not injured.
  • The suspect fled the scene in a white Toyota Tundra.
  • A vehicle that was parked in the parking lot was struck by two of the bullets, but no injuries were reported.
  • This is being investigated as an aggravated assault/domestic violence incident.
  • The suspect in the case has been taken into custody and will be identified once he has been booked into jail.
