GRAY COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — A Kentucky man is dead and another person injured after crashing a truck tractor and semi-trailer on Interstate 40, about five miles east of McLean, on Sunday night.
According to Department of Public Safety officials, at about 7:40 p.m., 51-year-old Billy Hardin, of Owingsville, Kentucky, was driving a 2014 Kenworth truck tractor and semi-trailer eastbound on I-40 over an overpass.
For unknown reasons, the driver struck the concrete barriers both on the north and south side of the overpass before crashing through the metal guardrail.
The semi then rolled multiple times down an embankment. It came to rest on its wheels in the grassy area between I-40 and the service road on the south side of the highway.
Hardin was pronounced dead at the scene by Gray County Justice of the Peace Connie Lockridge.
A passenger, 32-year-old Sheila Conrad, of Owingsville, was taken to Shamrock General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Conrad was in the sleeper at the time of the crash.
The wreck remains under the investigation of Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
