Here are the candidates on the ballot for the May 4 election

    Candidates have filed to be on the ballot for the May 4 election for Amarillo City Council.

    According to the Amarillo City Charter, elections for City Council are held in May of every odd-numbered year. Positions for Amarillo City Council are elected at-large, which means city council members represent all of Amarillo and not certain areas. The deadline to file for the May 4 election was 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.

    The candidates for the May 4 election for Amarillo City Council are (in alphabetical order):

    • Mayor: Kip Billups; Ginger Nelson (Incumbent); Claudette Smith.
    • Councilmember/Place 1: Elaine Hays (Incumbent); Rich Herman; Jay U. Kirkman III; Hayden Pedigo.
    • Councilmember/Place 2: Treva Harper; Freda Powell (Incumbent).
    • Councilmember/Place 3: Eddy Sauer (Incumbent); Tom Warren II; Brad Torch.
    • Councilmember/Place 4: Steven Rosas; Howard Smith (Incumbent).

    This list of candidates is subject to change pending eligibility requirements set forth by the Amarillo City Charter and state law. Candidate positions on the ballot will be determined by a drawing on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8:15 a.m. at City Hall. Candidates will be official at this time.

    The last day for candidates to withdraw their names from the ballot is Friday, Feb. 22. The last day to register to vote in the May 4 election is Thursday, April 4. Early voting begins Monday, April 22 and ends Tuesday, April 30.
