Funeral Saturday for 21-year-old Amarillo man killed in shooting that injured 2 girls

The funeral is Saturday for a 21-year-old Amarillo man killed in a shooting that injured two others.

JarVaurian Penns, 21, and two teenage girls were shot around 4:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard West and North McMasters Street.

His funeral is as 12 Noon at Saint John Baptist Church.

Amarillo police are looking for his killer.

On Thursday, police released a surveillance photo hoping someone can identify the truck driven by a potential witness.

Penns died at the hospital.

The other victims are 17 and 18-years-old.

The mother of one of the victims said Penns saved her daughter's life

She was shot in her back. As of Thursday, the bullet was still lodged. Doctors told the family it was too dangerous to remove.

Obituary

JarVaurian Berrell Penns was born in Amarillo, Texas to Jaremie Penns and Leah Williams on October 2, 2001. He attended Hamlet Elementary, Johnny Allen 6th Grade, Horace Mann Middle School and Palo Duro High School.

JarVaurian was known by Jay, J-Var and "Jit" to his friends. He was full of energy and a natural athlete. Jay participated in soccer, track, football and stood out in basketball and you couldn’t tell him he wasn’t the “BEST” in anything that he did. Jay had a genuine love for people and his contagious smile will forever remain as a memory in our heart.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James L. Penns, Jr and maternal grandmother, Eloise Williams

JarVaurian leaves his legacy to his two precious daughters, Kamilla Penns and Londyn Dream Penns. His mother - Leah Dean, father – Jaremie Penns (Kodi), step-father – Tyrone Dean, sisters, Ty’Leigha Dean, Shannon Miller (Courtney), Akakia Gilkey; one brother, George Dean; Grandparents, Gary & Darlene Williams and Mary Penns all of Amarillo. His aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends will miss him dearly!
