A former Dimmitt police officer was arrested after an investigation into theft by a public servant.

An investigation in Castro County led to an arrest warrant being issued for former Officer Rita Ramos Sepeda.

An initial complaint was investigated by the Texas Rangers, a Castro County Sheriff's spokesman said, who referred all questions to the Rangers.

An internal investigation by the Dimmitt Police Department was also done.

DPD said Sepeda was on administrative leave during the internal investigation and when the allegations led to charges, Sepeda was terminated. DPD declined to comment further about the case.

Sepeda surrendered to Oldham County officials on August 8, and was booked into jail on a charge of theft by a public servant. She was released from jail that day, after posting a $2,000 bond.
