UPDATE: 2 p.m.

According to Borger police, the fire chief has requested a flame retardant drop on scrub bush surrounding the flames. The retardant is a preventative measure to keep the fire contained due to the difficulty of putting it out because of the sustained fuel source.

The blaze will likely continue burning the remainder of today and possibly across the next two days. Crews are working to keep the fire contained until it can be extinguished.

ORIGINAL STORY: Multiple agencies are working a fire at the tree limb site near the east city limits of Borger, according to a Borger Police Department release.

The fire is burning through the limb pile. This was not a controlled burn, and the cause of the ignition will be under investigation, according to the release.

Because of the critical fire danger today additional resources including tenders, heavy equipment and aircraft are being placed on standby, Borger police said.

There are also resources assigned to be looking for any spot fires that may occur as the result of the original fire.

The limb pile is closed as of this time, and only open for responding emergency apparatus.

Check back with ABC 7 for details as they develop.
