Driver involved in 5-vehicle crash on SH-136 dies from injuries

One of the people who were involved in a five-vehicle crash Friday morning has died.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said 74-year-old "DA" (Duward Allen) Cator, of Gruver, died Saturday night from injuries he received during the crash, which happened on SH-136 in Potter County.

DPS said Cator had been driving a 2011 Ford F-150 southbound of SH-136, about four miles northeast of Amarillo. He was approaching a line of vehicles that had slowed for a truck trying to turn left onto Folsom Road.

Acccording to DPS, Cator failed to slow down and struck three southbound vehicles, including two SUVs and one semi truck, as well as a pickup truck that was traveling northbound.

DPS said it is unknown why Cator failed to slow down. He was taken to the hospital via Life-Star but passed away Saturday night.

Cator was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to DPS, who is still investigating the crash.
