DUMAS, Texas (KVII) — UPDATE| The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the names of the four people who were killed in a two-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning.
DPS said 45-year-old Marc Joseph from Dumas was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue north in the northbound lane of US-287 just after 5 a.m. His passenger was 38-year-old Kenzy Seme from Dumas.
According to DPS, the crash happened when a 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by 69-year-old Gregorio Avalos-Rivera from Spearman collided head-on into the Nissan. The Toyota was being driven the wrong way in the northbound lane of US-287. The passenger in the Toyota was identified as 57-year-old Jose Chavez from Spearman.
DPS said all four people were pronounced dead on scene by Moore County Justice of the Peace, Sue Sims. Everyone was wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.
UPDATE| As of 10 a.m., DPS said the road was still closed but traffic was flowing, as DPS was diverting drivers off 287 and letting them back on after the scene of the crash.
ORIGINAL STORY| A major crash early Tuesday morning has claimed the lives of four people.
According the the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened about two miles north of Dumas on US-287 around 5 a.m.
DPS said four people died in the two-vehicle crash. The names of those who died have not been released, as next of kin have not yet been notified.
Traffic northbound out of Dumas was shut down for some time as DPS investigated the crash.
As of about 8 a.m., the investigation into the crash was ongoing and Troopers were expected to remain on the scene for several hours, DPS said.
