The Donley County Sheriff’s Office, with an assist from Texas Rangers, is investigating a double homicide Tuesday in Howardwick.

A call came into the Sheriff’s Office at 10:09 p.m. Monday regarding an incident in the 100 block of Lakeview Lane in Howardwick.

“Upon arrival, we found a male and a female, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds,” Sheriff Charles “Butch” Blackburn said Tuesday.

He said evidence at the scene indicates this is a double homicide, and it is being investigated as such.

“This is not a homicide, suicide,” Blackburn said.

Autopsies are to be performed Tuesday morning in Lubbock, the sheriff said.

Although the sheriff said the couple left four children behind, he would not offer any other information on the children.

“I don’t know who killed their parents; I’m sure not going to say where the kids are,” Blackburn said.

He also said that the children were not injured.

“Luckily they were not hurt, well not physically hurt,” Blackburn said.

As of mid-morning Tuesday, the sheriff said he had no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

He said the names of the deceased are likely to be released later Tuesday after next of kin have been notified. Blackburn said he had reached out to the Amarillo Police Department for assistance, as two relatives live in Amarillo.

"I have no suspects at this time," Blackburn said. "Certainly if anyone has any information please call the Donley County Sheriff's Office."
