DALLAM COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — A Dalhart man is dead after colliding with a semi-truck and trailer on US 87, northwest of Dalhart, on Friday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at about 8:15 a.m., a 2001 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer, driven by Billie Morgan, 58, of Dalhart, was driving northwest on US 87 in the right lane.
Meanwhile, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Damon Whaley, 39, of Dalhart, was traveling northwest on US 87 behind the 18-wheeler.
The 18-wheeler signaled and slowed down to make a right turn into a private driveway but, for unknown reasons, Whaley did not see the semi-truck and trailer slowing down to make the turn and hit the semi-trailer.
Whaley was pronounced dead on the scene by Dallam County Justice of the Peace Carol Smith.
Morgan was not injured in the collision.
The crash remains under the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers' investigation.
