CANYON, Texas (KVII) — "So there's a lot of things that we can do with this board," said Canyon ISD Chief Technology Officer, Michael Keough.
'G Suite for Education' is a term Canyon ISD students are all too familiar with. Through this technology-driven platform, CISD now stands with 219 districts worldwide, recognized as a Google Reference District.
"That means a lot to our students," said Keough.
Keough said through iPads and chrome books, students' learning is enhanced by it being more interactive.
"Our students are getting real world experience of working on devices from a technical standpoint, but on the opposite scale, they're getting real world experience on how to provide excellent customer service," said Keough.
Chris Norton, Director of Digital and Academic Innovation, trains teachers on knowing how to best use technology in the classrooms.
"Knowing how to work these is one thing, but knowing how to use it with students and how to enhance the curriculum is a whole new ball game," said Norton.
Norton said they have worked hard implementing Google apps for education to take students' learning experience to a new level.
"Really it's about giving students the opportunity for 21st learning skills, and that's your communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creation," said Norton. "When you look at the job market today, most jobs are wanting those four skills right there."
CISD said it is giving students a leg up, preparing them for what's to come.
"These are empowering our kids, so that by the time they leave, they're going to be a step ahead of the rest," said Keough.
