Missing, endangered 30-year-old man out of Potter County has been located

UPDATE | Just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Potter County Sheriff's Office said Paul McKinney had been located and is no longer missing.

UPDATE | The Amarillo Police Department is assisting the Potter County Sheriff's Office in searching for Paul McKinney, a 30-year-old man with Asperger Syndrome. Police say he has the mental capacity of a child.

APD said McKinney was seen in the area of 34th Avenue and Bell Street on Tuesday, but has not been located by authorities.

ORIGINAL STORY | The Potter County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who has been missing since Monday afternoon.

PCSO began searching for 30-year-old Paul Henry McKinney Monday afternoon. As of Tuesday morning, they are continuing to search for him.

“We never had any luck last night,” Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas said. “So, we are starting again this morning.”

According to PCSO, McKinney was last seen Monday around 3:30 p.m. in the 9000- block of Charnetta Trail.

McKinney has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder, and authorities say he has the mental capacity of a 15-year-old. He is described as a light-complected black man with blue eyes and black hair, according to PCSO. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 240 pounds. He was last known to be wearing a gray T-shirt, dark jeans, white shoes and glasses.

Texas Alerts on Twitter, which is an officials account of the Texas Department of Public Safety, has sent out an alert for McKinney, calling him an endangered missing persons and stating he was last seen on foot.

Anyone who thinks they may have located McKinney is asked to call 911 or the PCSO at (806)379-2900.
