A gift from Happy State Bank has provided every high school student at Ascension Academy with a Dell Chromebook since they registered last week.

Ascension Academy says that the initiative is aimed at putting valuable resources in the hands of students and teachers, while catering to a wider variety of learning and communication styles.

The Happy State Bank 1:1 Chromebook Initiative was piloted by a sample of students and teachers at Ascension Academy last spring in a variety of subjects. The response was enough to pursue the technology for all students in grades 9-12 going forward, according to the Academy.

“It was obvious from the feedback we received in the classroom that our students wanted this resource for all of their classes,” said Elisa Johnson, Math Department Head and pilot program participant. “This year the Chromebooks will be a daily part of a student’s learning experience across all subjects.”

Faculty members were trained on how to best implement this technology in the classroom during in-service work sessions last week. The pilot period also helped Ascension educators determine shareable best practices across all subjects.

The gift from Happy State Bank will not only cover the initial equipment cost, but also provide funds to sustain the program, including maintenance, repair, and replacement.

“Family first is a core value at Happy State Bank, and we strive daily to put all families first in everything that we do. These kids are our future and we are “Happy” to help them achieve their goals,” Mikel Williamson, President and

C.O.O. of Happy State Bank, said.

Ascension Academy begins its nineteenth season on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
