SWAT incident ends in 45-year-old man's suicide

    Amarillo Police Department on scene with suicidal subject

    UPDATE: The Amarillo Police Department has released more information on the SWAT incident in the 4400 block of Tiffani.

    According to APD, at about 12:25 a.m., officers were called to the 4400 block of Tiffani on a welfare check for a possibly suicidal 45-year-old male. When they arrived, officers were able to make contact with the subject who was armed with a handgun.

    SWAT and Negotiators were called and Negotiators talked to him for several hours but the man refused to exit the home. No one else was in the house with him.

    APD and Randall County robots were deployed to assist in negotiating and keep the subject contained.

    The man stopped talking to Negotiators and SWAT entered the residence and located the subject deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body.

    UPDATE: At around 12:30 p.m., Family members called about 45-year-old man who is suicidal and is armed.

    SWAT and reinforcements were called around 2:30 a.m. and have been making contact will him all morning until 6 a.m.

    At this time, authorities have sent in robots to see why communication has stopped.

    The man is alone and just has pets in the house, no one else is threatened.

    The Amarillo Police Department SWAT are in the area of 4500 Tiffani about an armed suicidal subject.

    According to The Amarillo Police Department public release, "Southwest 45th ave is closed for traffic in both directions from Coulter to Chandler."

    Drivers are asked to take alternate routes if driving in the area.
