AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is partnering with Coffee Memorial Blood Center to host a Hawaiian-themed community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20 at Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
At last year's drive, the group collected 25 pints and this year they're hoping to exceed that goal. In addition to adding to investing in the cohesion to save millions of lives, each donor will receive a beach towel. Donors can also get coffee and donuts from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and snow cones will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
One blood donation can save three lives and many people are counting on that life-saving donation. Blood is routinely transfused to help patients of all ages and circumstances, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, military soldiers and cancer patients.
“We are so lucky to live in such a giving community,” Dr. Graves of Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery said. “There is no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life. Ever since initiating the blood drive three years ago with Coffee Memorial Blood Center, we knew we wanted to make this an annual event as a way to give back to the community and also encourage the community to give back as well.”
The process takes about 15 minutes and appointments are required. Donors must be at least 17-years-old, 16-years-old with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors will all blood types are needed.
The blood drive will be held in the classroom at Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, located at 5051 S. Soncy Road. Appointment sign ups can be done at www.yourbloodinstitute.org or by calling (806) 331-8833.
