AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A 19-year-old Texas Panhandle man must serve 11 years in federal prison for trying to lure a minor into prostitution.

Deswan Newsome of Amarillo in July pleaded guilty to attempted sex trafficking of a child in an online sting involving an officer pretending to be a girl.

The investigation began when the undercover officer noticed someone trying to use Facebook to entice girls into prostitution. An officer set up a Facebook account and portrayed himself as a female teenager.

Federal prosecutors say Newsome, in March and April, attempted to recruit a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Prosecutors say Newsome was the person exchanging messages with the officer.

Newsome was arrested when he arranged a meeting at an Amarillo convenience store.

He was sentenced Friday.
