AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An Amarillo food pantry is fighting more than just hunger.
The organization, No Boundaries International-Amarillo, has used its food pantry for the last two years to help fight an illegal activity in the area. Now, it's adding another food service too.
You can watch No Boundaries staff making sure their food pantry stays stocked. They said they're filling it with food, drinks and more, at least two to three times a week.
"We just felt like there was no reason for anybody to be bought or sold just to eat," said Director of No Boundaries, Traci Rogers.
Along with other mission work the group does, it feeds people to stop them from selling their kids or themselves for sex.
"Several years ago when we started looking at starting a food pantry, we just wanted to see what the needs were in the community," said Rogers.
Rogers said every study, statistics or hard figures is a personal tragedy. However, they don't tell the whole story of the horrifying reality that some families face to be able to afford food.
"We just started asking, and just started watching and listening, and that's just kind of how it all unfolded."
Rogers said through serving, they hear first-hand what people are dealing with. Outside of having the pantry open on Tuesdays and Wedneday mornings, Rogers said they're taking things a step further.
"Every Thursday now from five to six, we are serving a dinner, and it's open to anybody that wants to come," said Rogers. "And then from five to seven, our food pantry and our clothes closet are open."
Creating fellowship one bite at a time, Rogers said she hopes to make even one person's life a little bit better.
Rogers said the first dinner will kick off Thursday night, October 18. No Boundaries said they're always taking donations for the organization and pantry.
