Allen resigns from Amarillo ISD school board
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
James Allen has resigned his seat on the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees after 19 years.
According to Board President Jim Austin, Allen turned in his letter of resignation on June 15. The Amarillo ISD website says that Allen's term would not have expired until 2021.
Allen also worked for the City of Amarillo in the Community Development/Housing Assistance Department. He also worked in customer service for AT&T and was an assistant vice president and loan officer for Amarillo National Bank for 19 years.
He had been on the AISD Board of Trustees since May of 1999. Allen also has been a member of the City of Amarillo Community Development Advisory Committee and served as chairman in 2004.
Allen has also served on the board of or volunteered with the Kiwanis Club, North Branch YMCA, NAACP, Masonic Lodge 415 and the ACE (Achievement to Commitment to Education) Advisory Committee. He has also served as the president of the Potter County Democratic Club.
An Amarillo native, Allen graduated from Tascosa High School in 1979. He has a Bachelor of Arts in management with a minor in marketing from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga.
