2 Texas Panhandle towns ranked in Top 5 Best Places to live
Two towns in the Texas Panhandle rank near the top of the best cities to live in, according to 24/7 Wall Street.
Perryton ranked No. 3 on the list and was followed by Dumas right behind at No. 4. 24/7 Wall Street says they used a weighted index of more than two dozen measures to identify the best cities to live.
According to 24/7 Wall Street, Perryton is one of the least expensive cities in the United States. Typical area homeowners spend just above $627 per month, compared to the U.S. average of $1,000. Overall, goods and services are 13 percent less expensive in Perryton than the nationwide average.
Dumas is also ranking high among the best cities to live in because of its affordability. Goods and services in Dumas are about 12 percent less expensive than the national average and housing is particularly cheap. The typical homeowner spends about $704 per month.
According to 24/7 Wall Street, Dumas also has fewer crimes, a lower jobless rate and a greater concentration of restaurants, bars, movie theaters and museums that the United States as a whole.
