CLOVIS, N.M. (KVII) — Two Clovis elementary schools had classes Thursday, despite starting the day without full power in the buildings.
According to Clovis Municipal Schools, Highland and Lockwood Elementary Schools lost power as a result of storms on Wednesday. At 6:30 a.m., the district was notified of the lack of full power at the schools but the buses were already in operation and transporting students.
The district's position is once students are in transit, school is not canceled due to safety reasons and children returning home without a parent or guardian at home.
Power at Lockwood Elementary was restored at about 9 a.m., however, Highland Elementary remained on partial power throughout the day. However, service was fully restored at Highland at about 3:20 p.m. and school will be in session Friday.
