2 arrested after DPS Trooper locates almost 5 pounds of meth in car

    The Texas Department of Public Safety seized nearly five pounds of methamphetamine on Friday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County for a traffic violation.

    According to DPS officials, at about 12:20 p.m., a Trooper stopped a 2017 Nissan Sentra traveling on Interstate 40 east near Conway for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered plastic-wrapped bundles of methamphetamine inside luggage behind the driver's seat.

    Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agents and DPS Special Agents were contacted to assist with the case. DEA Special Agents arrived on scene and took over the case.

    The driver, Brendan Martin, 30, of Corona, Calif., and passenger, Araceli Barrera, 23, of Los Angeles, Calif., were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Randall County Jail.
