Wyclef Jean remixing 2017 hip-hop hits for new project
Wyclef Jean has remixed some of 2017's biggest hip-hop hits for a new mixtape project.
According to BBC News, the 48-year-old Fugees musician will rework hits including Kendrick Lamar's DNA and Young Thug and Future's Killed Before by adding his beats and lyrics for new versions that will be unveiled "in a couple of days".
Explaining his motivation for making the mixtape, titled Inspired, he added, "They already called me a genius - but the true genius is what? When you're able to reinvent genius over and over again."
Since making his name alongside Lauryn Hill and Pras in the Fugees, Wyclef has had solo hits and produced worldwide hits including Shakira's Hips Don't Lie and Santana ft. The Product G&B track Maria Maria.
The latter track was heavily sampled on DJ Khaled and Rihanna's summer smash Wild Thoughts, and Wyclef said his new project was a way of returning the compliment of having younger stars sample his work, adding that he would, "mess with the kids the same way they mess with my material."
The Perfect Gentleman singer plans to begin releasing new material regularly, rather than waiting to drop an album.
He explained, "As a kid I was always like, 'What the hell? Why do I have to wait to put out music? So every couple of months for the next two years, we're going to put out new music, feeding the fans, all over the world."
The prolific star's latest musical project comes hot on the heels of his eighth studio album Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee, which came out in September.
