ROSEBURG, Ore. (KPIC) -- The gloom of June disappeared just in time for ice cream.
A California-based ice cream company is making its way up the West Coast, giving ice cream to healthcare workers.
Re:THINK Ice Cream dropped off hundreds of cups to healthcare workers in Douglas County.
"When the pandemic hit, it was clear there was a lot of struggling going on and so we just thought what better way to give back than to give some of our healthy ice cream to the healthcare workers and give them a moment of comfort during their difficult day," said Re:THINK founder, George Haymaker.
They first started donating in northern California.
"It has just been so successful and well-received," said Haymaker. "The hospital workers have loved it so we said, well, why not take it on the road? We rented a Ryder truck and loaded up 20,000 cups of ice cream and headed north."
Haymaker made his way through Oregon Wednesday delivering to Mercy Medical Center and the Roseburg VA.
He says giving back is a part of their mission, "but also to give back to the communities that we serve and to help people that are struggling. I’m in recovery for addiction, so a lot of people help me when I was hitting my bottom and getting started again. And that's what I want to do with the rest of my life, is help others."
After the west coast, he says they plan to head east.
Re:THINK is a low-sugar, low-carb, low-fat and low-calorie ice cream that is also Keto diabetic-friendly.
And Haymaker gave us the scoop about an upcoming change.
"In about two weeks, we're going to be updating the formula with some really cool new surprises. So all you non-diary people out there might want to stay tuned because we got a cool surprise coming."
