Asia Johnson joined the ABC 7 Amarillo news team in June 2016. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised in Mesquite, Texas, a suburb just outside of Dallas since the age of three. She considers herself a true Texan.
Asia’s interest in journalism started at a very young age. She always had a passion for reading and writing. Reading mystery books brought her great joy.
Broadcast journalism became an interest of Asia’s when she became a Junior and Freshman in College. She attended Richland Collegiate High School where she received her high school diploma and Associates degree.
Her first real encounter with Broadcast Journalism began when FOX 4- Dallas anchor and consumer reporter, Steve Noviello taught her first Broadcast Journalism course. His teachings geared her for when she went to the University of North Texas in Denton.
At UNT is where Asia began to blossom in her role as a News Producer. She was the full-time producer at her campus news station, and she also won two journalism scholarships including the Lone Star Emmy Foundational Scholarship. GO MEAN GREEN!
Asia also interned as a TV Show producer for Denton Community Television. Upon graduation, she was offered a shadowing News Producer position with NBC-Dallas.
Asia is excited to start her first position as Daybreak Producer in the Panhandle. She is delighted to hear that ABC 7 has the #1 Daybreak show in the Panhandle. She would like to continue with that legacy.
In her spare time, Asia enjoys reading, hanging with family and friends, cooking and binge watching her favorite shows on Netflix. She also loves Jesus Christ, and believes He is the reason why her journey through life has been such a great experience.
