The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs bid for a South Central Regional Championship fell just short on Tuesday night in a 56-53 defeat to host Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center.

WT's (29-5 overall) season came down to a second-half rally that came up just short when senior Madison Parker's three-point shot at the buzzer hit the back iron.

The Lady Buffs struggled at nine-of-27 shooting from the field in the first half for 33 percent overall and just one-of-five from beyond the arc. However, the WT shooters rebounded in the second half, finishing the night 20-of-57 for 38.5 percent and five-of-14 from downtown.

The Chaps (31-1 overall) held a seven-point advantage at the break before the Lady Buffs rallied in the second half.

Sophomore Lexy Hightower and senior Sydney Walton led the WT offense with 12 points each and junior Tyesha Taylor scored 10. Junior Tiana Parker led the Lady Buffs defense with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Both Hightower and Parker were named to the All-Tournament team.

Tournament MVP Tess Bruffey led the way for LCU, tallying 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double in the championship game.
