LSC head coaches, sports information directors and various media throughout the region met in San Antonio on Tuesday July 31st to chat about the upcoming fall sports season in the Lone Star Conference.
Midwestern State has been selected to repeat as LSC football champion in 2012. Abilene Christian 2nd, with West Texas A&M 3rd while Eastern New Mexico is 8th among the 9 teams.
In Volleyball West Texas A&M is favored to win their 7th consecutive LSC championship. The Volleybuffs received 21 of 27 first place votes. Angelo State 2nd followed by ACU while Eastern tabbed last among the schools. WTAMU's Erin Daugherty and Lacy Hayes have been tabbed defensive player of the year, and setter of the year respectively in preseason voting.
The West Texas A&M Women's Soccer team has been picked to finish 6th. MSU is the favorite to win the championship while the Zias have been picked 5th. Abilene Christian's Andrea Carpenter named the preseason offensive player of the year. The Junior forward from Amarillo, and the latest Dick Bynum Award winner is coming off an All-American season, and was named the LSC player of the year for the 2nd straight year.
Finally in Men's Soccer the Bootin' Buffs of WTAMU picked 3rd in a four team league. While defending champion ENMU 4th.
