Lady Buff Volleyball Sweeps Lone Star Conference Weekly Awards
Tue, 15 Oct 2013 20:31:02 GMT — Coming off of a pair of huge conference sweeps this past weekend in Canyon, the #9 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M registered another sweep on Tuesday morning, this time of the Lone Star Conference weekly awards announced from the leagueâ??s offices in Richardson, Texas.
Halie Harton was tabbed the Co-Offensive Player of the Week while fellow senior Laura Iwuchukwu picked up Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors and Kameryn Hayes was named the Co-Setter of the Week for the first time this season.
The #9 Lady Buffs registered sweeps over Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Womanâ??s this past weekend at the WTAMU Fieldhouse â??The Boxâ?? to improve their overall record to 16-3 with a perfect 6-0 mark in the LSC to lead the league as the only remaining unbeaten.
Harton continued to lead the powerful WT offensive this past weekend as the senior outside from Roswell, New Mexico tallied 26 kills on the weekend to average 4.33 per set to go along with 11 digs in a pair of home wins. Harton tallied 15 kills on Friday night before following that up with 11 kills and six digs on Saturday afternoon against TWU.
Iwuchukcu and the Lady Buff defense continued to dominate this past weekend. The Edmond, Oklahoma native tallied 11 kills on the weekend to go along with three digs and 10 total blocks. Iwuchukwu continues to lead all of DII in blocks per set this season with a staggering average of 1.76.
Hayes continued to guide the WT offense this past weekend as the Cypress, Texas native registered 76 assists on the weekend to average 12.76 per set to go along with four kills and 15 digs in the pair of matches. Hayes dished out 35 assists on Friday night against Texas A&M-Commerce followed by a 41 assist performance on Saturday against TWU.
The Lady Buffs return to action tonight as they head down Highway 60 to face off with the rival Zias of Eastern New Mexico (4-12, 2-5 LSC) with first serve set for 8 p.m. CT from Greyhound Arena in Portales, New Mexico.
