Griffin lifts Lady Buffs past Kingsville

West Texas A&Mâ??s Devin Griffin and Chontiquah White combined to score an impressive 59 points as the Lady Buffs topped the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville, 79-67 on Saturday night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas in Lone Star Conference action. The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 16-11 (12-6 LSC) while the Javelinas fall to 5-19 (3-15 LSC) on the season.

The first twenty minutes saw the Lady Buff lead the entire opening half as a Raven Gerald three from the top of the key as time expired gave WT their biggest lead of the game at 33-25 as both team headed into the locker room for the half.

The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Devin Griffin with 14 points and six rebounds followed by Chontiquah White with 11 points. West Texas A&M went 11-of-32 from the floor including 2-of-8 from deep and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe to shoot 34.4% in the opening half.

Texas A&M-Kingsville was led at the break by Ashley Viera with seven points followed by teammates Sheana Jones and Rita Banaszczak with five points each. The Javelinas went 9-of-24 from the floor including 2-of-7 from long range and 5-of-7 from the free throw line to shoot 37.5% in the half.

The second half saw Griffin and White combine to score 34 of the 46 Lady Buff points in the half as WT rolled to the 79-67 win, shooting an incredible 30-of-36 from the charity stripe throughout the game.

The Lady Buffs were led by Griffin with a career high 31 points and 11 rebounds followed by White with 28 points and seven boards. West Texas A&M went 23-of-57 from the floor including 3-of-10 from deep and 30-of-36 from the free throw line to shoot 40.4% on the night.

The Javelinas were led by Kaitlyn Lowen with 16 points followed by Jones with 15 and Ashley Viera with 13 on the night. Kingsville went 21-of-46 from the floor including 2-of-12 from behind the arc and 23-of-30 from the free throw line to shoot 45.7% in the game.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Commerce, Texas to face off with the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
