Former Buffs making a name in NFL Preseason

Former Buffaloes Khiry Robinson and Manase Foketi have shown some great things during the 2013 NFL preseason as they look to earn spots on their respective teams.

Robinson had a solid start for the New Orleans Saints as he rushed for 52 yards on 12 carries and had two receptions out of the back field for 15 yards in the Saintsâ?? 17-13 win over Kansas City Aug. 9.

Robinson was undrafted in April, but has shown promise so far in camp as he left WT after rushing for a school-record 1,621 yards with 15 touchdowns along with 38 receptions for 430 yards as a senior in 2012. He averaged 124.7 yards per game and ranked 13th nationally. Robinson was 10th nationally in all-purpose yards at 173.22. He was a Second Team All-America selection.

According to an article by Ryan Edwards of the Canal Chronicles, â??â?¦Robinson certainly passes the eye test with his tough, physical running style while having the ability to make tacklers miss. He doesnâ??t have excellent speed, but seems to have good instincts.â??

Robinson is battling with Travaris Cadet who is a second year player out of Appalachian State. The Saints also have Mark Ingram, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas at the position.

In addition to Robinson, former Buffalo offensive lineman Manase Foketi also was undrafted, but is in Denver and looking to make the team.

Foketi, a native of Hesperia, Calif., came to WT after graduating from Kansas State. He started all 15 games on the offensive line and earned Daktronics First Team All-America honors, as well as a finalist for the Gene Upshaw award. He also was named to the American Football Coaches Association First Team and was invited to the East-West Shrine Game, Jan. 19, 2013, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Foketi helped lead the Buffaloes to a 12-3 season and the school's first berth in the NCAA Semifinals. He earned Don Hanson All-Super Region Four first team honors.

The Buffs have eight former players on NFL rosters this summer as Charly Martin (2004-08) just signed with Jacksonville after signing with San Francisco earlier in the summer. Jâ??Marcus Webb (2008-09) continues to be a force with Chicago on the offensive line, while Brittan Golden (2007-11) is with the Bears on a reserve/future contract.

Eugene Sims (2008-09) continues to be a force in St. Louis as he established new season-highs in tackles (36) and sacks (3.0) last season at defensive end.

Minnesotaâ??s Stephen Burton (2009-10) grabbed his first career TD pass on a batted ball at Indianapolis (9/16/12), while he started his first career game five weeks later vs. Arizona (10/21/12). He has three receptions for 67 yards during the 2013 preseason.

Dallasâ?? Anthony Armstrong (2001-04) has had two receptions for 29 yards in the preseason for the Cowboys. He started the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, with one reception for 18 yards and followed with one reception for 11 yards against the Raiders on Aug. 9.
