??Another good conference and regional win, Cameron is an athletic team that can really put pressure on you?? said WT head coach Jason Skoch ??We need to work on closing out an opponent when we get a chance, we allowed a lot of late points during each set that weren??t necessary.??
The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 41-2 all-time against the Aggies with WT taking the last 21 meetings dating back to 1998. The win marks the 20th consecutive win for WT in Canyon and their 13th straight win this season.
Halie Harton opened up the first set in style with a service ace on the matches first serve as WT hit .235 in the opening frame while the Aggies hit just .200 with five attack errors as WT took the win, 25-22. The second set saw much of the same as the teams traded blows but a WT run with Lauren Britten at the service line gave the Lady Buffs the 25-20 victory as WT hit .323 with 15 kills. The third set saw the Lady Buffs take an early lead and never let go as they hit .250 in the match with 13 kills to go along with just four attack errors as they took the third and deciding set, 25-21 for the sweep.
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Halie Harton with 11 kills followed by Lexi Davis with eight and Lauren Bevan/Kameryn Hayes with seven each. Hayes led all players with 30 assists on the afternoon while Lauren Britten tallied 14 digs to lead WT.
WT hit .267 on the afternoon with 16 attack errors and 10.0 total blocks while the Aggies struggled offensively as they hit .127 with 21 attack errors and 6.0 total blocks in the match.
The Aggies were led by Kelle Carver with 11 kills followed by Grace Newkirk with seven and teammate Shannon DuLaney with six on the afternoon. Kayla Hebert tallied 29 assists on the match to lead the Aggies while Erin Hardy led all players with 18 digs.
??Thanks to our early wins and other teams knocking off each other, we are in a good position to host the conference tournament and maybe a regional?? added Skoch ??We have to take these last nine matches one at a time and keep our ultimate goal in mind.??
The Lady Buffs return to action next Friday as the head South for their only match of the week as they face-off with the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville with first serve set for 7 p.m. at the Steinke Center in Kingsville, Texas.
