A motorcycle rider was killed after being thrown from the speeding bike that crashed into another vehicle Saturday night in Mount Airy, police say.

Maryland State Police say the person was riding a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle at a "high rate of speed" going south on Route 27 north of Route 144 when it lost control and and rear-ended a vehicle in the same lane. Officers say the rider was "ejected" and suffered major trauma.

Police say they got to the scene at around 8:37 p.m. and pronounced the rider dead.

Route 27 was closed for close to four hours while police responded to the crash.

Authorities did not release any other information and are continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information on the crash can call state police at 301-600-4150.
