Sun, 21 Jul 2013 19:21:59 GMT — The Amarillo Zoo along with zoos across the nation are getting ready to kick off National Zoo Keeper Week that starts July 22ndto July 26th. It??s a week dedicated to recognizing the dedication of zoo keepers nationwide. The American Association of Zoo Keepers created the national week that begins the third Sunday of July each year. During the week, zoos honor the 7,000 animal care professionals in the United States and the work that they do. ??It??s kind of a new recognition for us,?? said Amarillo Zoo Keeper, Sara Venable. ??We get out here and we do this for the love of the animals. We don??t do it for the paycheck. But it??s kind of nice to have a week long dedication to us and what we do out here.?? Kids ages 14-18 can register to become a zoo keeper for the day where they will spend the day at the zoo working with zoo keeper. To enter the contest, visit connectamarillo.com and click on Zoo Keeper for the Day contest. Contestants have until Wednesday, July 24th to register.
