'ZooCrew' volunteers attend first day of training

The Amarillo Zoo hosted its volunteer training course for the winter season.

Nearly 15 people attended the

winter volunteer training class.

ooCrew volunteers work with the animals, interact with guests and help zoo keepers with special events.

Zoo officials said they're interested in

college students willing to volunteer in its new education building.

"We like a lot of people to come out and volunteer because we do have a very small staff," Haley Wild zoo educator said. "A lot of people don't know that they can come out and volunteer at the zoo, so a few times a year we put it out in the public and into the community."

Interviews will be conducted this week, and those selected to the program will receive a training manual and uniform.

Volunteers must be 13 years or older. The program is $25.
